ASPECT’s advocacy work is strongest when it is informed by the lived experience, insight, and leadership of our Board of Directors. Board members play a critical role in advising and supporting me in the advocacy work I carry out on behalf of ASPECT members and the community-based employment services sector more broadly. They also help shape conference content and inform our professional development webinars and workshops by identifying system gaps, emerging workforce challenges, and the realities of rural and remote service delivery. In doing so, board members contribute not only to sector leadership but also to their own personal and professional growth.
We are currently seeking three new board members to join the ASPECT Board of Directors. This call is an important opportunity to continue strengthening our governance and leadership at a time of significant change across employment and social services in British Columbia.
Over the past several years, we have seen firsthand how diversity makes for a stronger board and more inclusive decision-making. A board that brings together different perspectives, lived experiences, geographies, organizational sizes, and identities leads to richer discussions and more thoughtful, balanced decisions. It also strengthens our credibility as a sector voice and ensures that our advocacy reflects the communities and organizations we serve.
To support this, all current board members complete the same online application as prospective applicants. This allows us to map board competencies, experience, and expertise using a selection matrix, and to assess new applicants against that same framework. This approach helps us identify complementary skills and perspectives as we continue to build a strong, well-rounded board.
The call for board members is open until Friday, January 16, 2026. Please consider applying for this opportunity or sharing it with someone who would be a great fit. Strong governance strengthens our collective voice, and I look forward to welcoming new leaders to the table.
