A Resource for Challenging Times

April 08, 2026 10:59 PM | Anonymous member (Administrator)

I have been hearing a consistent message from members across the province. The environment is shifting. Frontline staff are managing more difficult conversations, online spaces are becoming more hostile, and clients, particularly newcomers and racialized individuals, are feeling the impact of rising anti-immigrant sentiment.

This is showing up in our service delivery, workplaces, and communities.

I want to draw your attention to a new resource developed by AMSSA: Responding to the Rise in Hate Speech, Racism, and Anti-Immigrant Sentiment Toolkit (March 2026).

What stands out is how grounded it is in the realities service providers are facing right now. It acknowledges the pressure on both clients and staff and offers practical ways to name, discuss, and respond to these situations within organizations. It is not about having perfect answers. It is about building awareness, supporting teams, and responding with intention.

For those of us in community-based employment services, this matters. Our sector is often the first point of connection for people navigating uncertainty and change. We are economic first responders and community anchors. How we respond shapes both client outcomes and the strength of our communities.

I encourage you to review the toolkit and consider using it in team discussions. Even small steps can build confidence and capacity. Kudos to AMSSA for this important work.

As always, ASPECT will continue to support you in this work. Please reach out if you are seeing trends or need additional resources.
